Expanding coin collection?
I’ve been collecting type sets from the late 1800’s to now, but I have several gaps I want to fill. Where should I go to buy them cheaply?
You’ll be able to fill in those holes for less money on eBay than from most coin dealers in shops, at trade shows and in ads in coin magazines. You’ll see a lot of wholesale prices on eBay. But you’ll also see the really hard to find go for astronomic prices if two or more people happen to want the same piece at the same time.
You just have to be careful when buying on eBay. The reputable sellers offer money back if you’re not happy with what you get, except for certified/graded Coins, which is self-explanatory.

Coin Collecting $51.06 Coin collecting is the collecting or trading of coins or other forms of minted legal tender. Coins of interest to collectors often include those that circulated for only a brief time, coins with mint errors and especially beautiful or historically significant pieces. Coin collecting can be differentiated from numismatics in that the latter is the systematic study of currency. Though closely related, the two disciplines are not necessarily the same. A numismatist may or may not be a coin collector and vice versa. |

Collecting Paper Money: A Beginner’s Guide $32.8 An attractive introduction to collecting paper money – a major hobby which has seen an increasing popularity in the last decade. It embraces art and can form a miniature art gallery involving the best engravers in the world and famous artists. For those who like research, the field is wide open and new discoveries are being made all the time. Paper money is the history of the world, issued as war-time emergencies, often hand signed by famous men like General Gordon of Khartoum and printed by men who made history, like Benjamin Franklin. From its beginnings in China, hidden in the mists of time, the mulberry bark flying money, which avoided transporting heavy cash coins, established paper money through the world. Wars sieges, inflation, forgeries were the breeding ground for paper money, and often help to prove historical events. There are very expensive notes – over a million has been paid for a note – but there are thousands of attractive notes from all over the world at 2-4 USD or even less. This book sets out to introduce the new collector to the fascinating areas of the hobby. |

The book deals with issues ranging from English collecting at the time of the Reformation, with all the tension that phenomenon produced in England’s relationships with Rome, to the early Cecils and conflicts between English Protestantism and Catholic Italianate taste. Exonumia: Coin Collecting, Numismatics, Royal Canadian Numismatic Association Medals and Awards, Medallic Art, Devotional Medal $25.75 Chapters: Royal Canadian Numismatic Association Medals and Awards. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 234. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: By 1954, a new trend was beginning to emerge for the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association as annual meetings evolved into annual conventions. Working with the Toronto Coin Club as host, the first such convention was held in Toronto in 1954. The conventions offered an agenda of educational forums, bourse activity, competitive exhibits with awards to the winners, and a closing banquet, with the highlight being a special guest speaker. . It was also in 1954 that the association issued its first ever medal to commemorate the event. The tradition of an annual convention and a convention medal continues to this very day. The Canadian Numismatic Associations official seal would eventually be used on many convention medals. The seal is an adaptation of Emmanuel Hahns famous Voyageur design, which was used on Canadian Silver Dollars since 1935. The first year that this seal was eventually used was 1963. The original die was engraved by H.F. Sarson of Pressed Metal Products in Vancouver. The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s official seal would be used beginning with the 2009 convention medal, following the official name change of the organization in 2008. Since 1954, the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association has sponsored the striking of a convention medal as a way of commemorating the occasion. The concept was that these medals would be for those attending the event. Eventually, variations were used as awards for those competing in the many convention display exhibits. The annual convention was directed by a host club. Occasionally, the members of the club were responsible for the designing of the medal. The mintages have varied from year to year…More: http: //booksllc.net/?id=925006 |
